A community-driven organisation working tirelessly for the forgotten souls of India since 2015
Parichaya is a non-governmental and non-political organisation registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860, based in Sambalpur, Odisha. We work tirelessly for the welfare of destitute, abandoned, and mentally ill individuals found on the streets, roads, and railway stations across India.
Founded formally in 2019 after years of individual effort, we have grown into an organisation that has rescued over 700 individuals, rehabilitated over 600, and reunited several families with their loved ones. What began as one man's quiet act of compassion in 2015 is now a movement.
We operate across Odisha and beyond, with a network of dedicated volunteers, medical partners, and community supporters who believe that no human being should be left without care and identity.
"It began with a single moment of helplessness — seeing a mentally distressed man sitting alone on a street, unrecognised and uncared for. That image never left us. Parichaya was born from the belief that every such person has a story, a family, and a life worth restoring."
Bipin Bihari Panda began his work alone — quietly rescuing and caring for destitute and mentally ill individuals on the streets of Sambalpur, driven by nothing but compassion and conviction.
For six to seven years, Bipin worked largely alone — with the gradual support of volunteers and well-wishers — helping destitute individuals on the streets without any formal structure or funding.
In August 2019, Parichaya was formally founded with the support of family and close associates, and officially registered as an organisation — giving structure, identity, and legitimacy to the mission.
Obtained 12A and 80G certifications in 2022, enabling tax-exempt donations and opening the doors to wider institutional and corporate support.
Over 700 rescues, 600+ rehabilitations, and several family reunifications — and the work continues every single day across Odisha and beyond.
Thousands of individuals live and die on India's streets every year, unidentified and uncared for.
Mental illness is one of the leading causes of homelessness — yet most affected individuals receive no treatment.
Many families lose track of loved ones who wander due to mental illness — Parichaya bridges that gap.
We approach every individual with empathy, patience, and unconditional care — treating every rescued person as a member of our own family. No judgment. No conditions. Just humanity.
We believe that every human being, regardless of their condition or appearance, deserves to be treated with honour, respect, and kindness. Dignity is not earned — it is inherent.
Our work is driven by the spirit of selfless service — we show up not for recognition, but because it is the right thing to do. Service is not a task; it is a calling.
We believe no situation is beyond recovery. Every rescue is an act of hope — a reminder that a better life is always possible, no matter how long someone has been forgotten.
